Pizza & Beer

Hi guys,

After the final game on Friday, we will be gathering in the party room up near the bar.

There will be plenty of FREE BEER and PIZZA available upstairs after the final game.Pizza will be served about 9:00 pm and the beer will be flowing from about 8:00 pm onwards.

This year we will have a 50/50 draw for 1/2 years free hockey next year but you gotta be there and buy a ticket to win.

NOTE TO THE NEW GUYS: Hey guys, you have been a real breath of fresh air in the league this year and its been great to have you as part of the league, we hope you have enjoyed the league. Friday is your chance to come up to the wind up party upstairs and meet some of the guys on the other teams. The thing that makes Simons such a good league is the BS that takes place amongst the guys and this is your opportunity to meet more of them AND drink some free beer and eat some free pizza and maybe win a 1/2 years free hockey for next year.

We will have the trophy presentation to the winning team and players from 5 of the 6 teams will once again lament about “what might have been” !!

See you there boyz !

Tie Breaker Rules and Scenarios

Hi Boys,

First: if there’s a tie in the round robin, here are the steps for determining who proceeds to the final game:

As per the rule from the 2015/2016 ASHL rule books are the steps we will use this year to determine who goes forward in the event of a tie:

I have also added more steps just in case we need them but hopefully we won’t. Steps f –> k to take it back to the regular season before we do the very unfair “coin toss”. Hopefully we won’t need to use it but its there if we need to.
2.14 TIES IN ROUND ROBIN STANDINGS – 2 OR MORE TEAMS

In the event of a tie in the round robin standings the following steps (a -e) will be used to break the tie:

a ) Best record in head-to-head games in the playoffs amongst the tied Teams

b) Most Wins in the Playoffs

c ) Largest Goal Differential (Goals For minus Goals Against) in the playoffs

d) Least Goals Against in the playoffs

e ) Least Penalty Minutes (Average per Game in the Playoffs)

If we can’t solve it in steps a–> e, then we will look to the regular season to settle the tie:

f ) Best record in head to head games in the regular season

g) Most Wins in the Regular Season

h) Largest Goal Differential in the Regular Season

i) Least goals against in the regular season

j) Least Penalty Minutes in the regular season

k) Toss a coin

NOTE 1: If there are still Teams tied after a step (no single Team is advanced), only the tied Teams from that step move on to the next step of the procedure. This process continues until there is only 1 team remaining.

NOTE 2: Once one team has been advanced using this tie-breaking procedure, it then reverts back to the start of the tie-breaking procedure (a) to break the remaining tie and so forth each time one team is advanced and more ties still need to be broken.

NOTE 3: Goal differential shall not exceed +7 in any playoff game.

NOTE 4: If all tied Teams have not played head-to-head, 2.14 a) will be skipped and the process will begin with 2.14 b).

EXAMPLE: 3 team round robin game results Team A defeats Team B 4-2 Team B defeats Team C 3-2 Team C defeats Team A 5-2

a) All teams are tied at 1-1 so head to head is not used

b) Team “A” is -1, Team “B” is -1, Team “C” is +2

Therefore Team C would advance and become first place. If a second place team is required, then Team A and B are still tied so they would go back to the start of the tie-breaking procedure to break the tie, where Team A defeated Team B. Therefore Team A would be the second place team.

Balancing Trades

Hi guys,

Just a brief note to advise you that there were a number of trades that were made on Friday night. Here are the standings as of today so you’ll see why we made the trades. The entire purpose of trading players is to balance the teams as much as possible so that you have change to win every game. We will review the teams / standings once more in 6 or 7 weeks and there may be final trades made for the year, it will depend on how balanced the teams are. If it happens, that will be the final exchange of players for the year.

Team GP W L T PTS GF GA +/-
Blackhawks 7 5 1 1 11 35 26 6
Canadiens 7 4 1 2 10 40 22 18
Rangers 7 4 1 2 10 41 28 16
Red Wings 7 3 3 1 7 23 30 -7
Briuns 7 1 5 1 3 25 39 -14
Maple Leafs 7 1 5 1 3 18 43 -19

Next week’s Schedule:

Rob Chrisp, Dave Morgan/Jeremy Ngai, David Magg, Allan Macammon you can all swap sweaters before the 6:45 game.

The trades were as follows:

Chris Richard moves from the Canadians to the Bruins.
Brad Sandquist goes from the Bruins to the Canadians.

Lucas Baldassare moves from the Blackhawks to the Leafs.
Jim Ryan moves from the Leafs to the Blackhawks.

Rob Chrisp moves from the Leafs to the Canadians.

Start of the Regular Season

Hi everyone,

Well our 3 game exhibition season is now complete and we have had a chance to look at all the new players in the league, there are about 15 of them.

The captains got together after the final game on Friday and discussed the possibility of making trades in order to balance the teams. We decided that we would wait until the completion of a full cycle of games, where every team has played every other team. At that point, we will review the players and the teams’ records and if we need to make trades to balance out the teams, we will do so.

For the new players, the league also rebalances the teams after two complete rounds of play so that if one team is 2-8 and another team is 8-2, there will be trades. The entire concept of the league is to have balanced teams whereby every week, you feel you have a chance to win the game.

So onward and forward, enjoy the season, play hard, play clean, play safe and play competitively.

One other note, I noticed during the last 2 weeks that one team was short a goalie and goalies from other teams (Paul Arsenault and Drew Robertson) got dressed early and helped out the team that was short a goalie for as long as they could – THAT is the Simons spirit !! Keep it up boyz !

Have fun this year guys and come on up to the bar after your game to shoot the breeze, there’s usually plenty of food, beer and BS floating around !!
